Do You Believe?

butterfly

We're not talking about the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. DNLCC is asking "Do you believe...Child Abuse is a Grown-Up Problem?" through its annual child abuse awareness campaign running throughout April. DNLCC wants all Charleston adults to answer "YES." The "I believe...' campaign focuses on
the belief that child abuse is a grown-up problem, and as adults, we are the key element
to successful prevention and treatment.

DNLCC believes the more you know, the better prepared you'll be to protect children in your community. Become part of the solution by getting involved today. Educate yourself by reading the information on this website, participating in the 'I believe...' events in April, and reading our booklet Children Can't Protect Themselves, It's Your Job.

On Saturday, April 18th join DNLCC for some FREE family fun at "Charleston Believes" on Marion Square from 8am to noon. Children will enjoy hands-on butterfly art projects, face painting, and bubbles. Children, 5K through 5th grade, may color an art entry form for The Butterfly Billboard Contest for a chance to win their artwork on our billboard on I-26. The Charleston Police Department will provide fire safety tips and tours of a fire truck. DNLCC and its community partners will provide information for adults on how to keep children safe. And most of all, we'll have some FUN!

I believe…

Child abuse happens in my neighborhood.

Child abuse happens more frequently than I know.

Children I know are at risk.

I need to recognize abuse.

I need to listen to children and look for signs of abuse.

I am responsible for protecting children from abuse.

With the help of The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, children can recover from abuse.

…child abuse is a grown-up problem!
