Since 1991, DNLCC has served over 21,000 children and their families. While it’s extremely hard to follow and measure the specific outcomes of each case, the overall statistics of DNLCC are measurable and speak to the clear impact the treatment that DNLCC provides has on the community.
2012 DNLCC Demographics 50% African American • 34% Caucasian • 8% Hispanic • 8% Other 48% male • 52% female 40% age 6 and under • 40% age 7-12 • 21% age 13 and above • 2012 Impact Statistics 1,351 children seen (an average of over 26 children per week) 47% children disclosed abuse • 25% did not disclose • 12% were undetermined 45% sexual abuse • 29% physical abuse • 5% neglect 21% other abuse • 86% knew offender prior to abuse • Of the 1,351 children seen at DNLCC... 446 children were referred for evidenced-based, trauma-focused treatment 100% showed a decrease in trauma symptoms before leaving treatment 949 received medical exams through MUSC • 376 families of the children seen received individual therapy 195 non-offending caregivers of the children seen participated in group therapy • An average of 14 community partners participated in MDT staffings per week • The Protection Clarification is a best-practice, treatment intervention specifically designed for non-offending caregivers of children who have been abused, exposed to substance abuse, domestic and/or community violence with the goal of strengthening the relationship between the child and non-offending caregiver. The focus is on helping the non-offending caregiver address the needs of the child and strengthening them as a protective resource.
286 Protection Clarifications were completed • The Child Abuse School Liaison program strives to increase school personnel’s knowledge of child abuse and maltreatment indicators, community resources, mandated reporting, and behaviors to appropriately manage disclosures and other circumstances as they arise in the school setting so that abused and at-risk children can receive the help they deserve to improve school performance, increase graduation rates, and grow into healthy and productive adults.
