| What are You Doing to Protect Children from Abuse?

The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center is a community-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit program that provides safe and non-threatening "one stop shopping" for victimized children and their families. Since 1991, DNLCC has helped over 15,500 children and their families.
Mission
Our mission is to keep children safe from abuse, and when abuse occurs, to work with our community to bring healing to these children and their families.
Vision
Our vision is to end the cycle of child abuse so that children can live in a safe and nurturing environment and grow into productive and healthy adults.

What happens at DNLCC?
ASSESSMENT:
Specially trained professionals conduct a thorough first interview which provides a clear record of the concern. The goal of this assessment is to answer the question, “Has there been abuse?”
ACTION:
DNLCC’s professional team then works with agency partners - including medical, legal, social services and mental health- to take appropriate action as quickly as possible. If a child needs to be protected, a plan is put in place.
SERVICES:
Children and their caregivers find the services they need at DNLCC or are referred to programs available elsewhere in the community. Individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy are just some of the treatment services provided at DNLCC. |
Suspect Abuse?
Reporting suspected abuse is the most important step you can take to protect our children. If you suspect abuse, call one of the numbers listed on this page. If the child is in immediate danger, CALL 911.
If you live in the Lowcountry area and need assistance with this process, call us at (843) 723-3600. We are here to help.
If you suspect abuse by a family member who has responsibility for taking care of the child, contact the Department of Social Services in your county:
Berkley (843) 719-1158
Charleston (843) 953-9422
